We are pleased to organize and support dozens of events that advance organic agriculture and trade throughout the year. Some of these are signature OTA events hosted for members, while others are regional, national, or international conferences where OTA staff are featured keynotes and panelists. The National Organic Standards Board (NOSB), which recommends organic policy to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Organic Program, will hold its fall public meeting October 31 through November 2 in Jacksonville, FL. The draft agenda for the upcoming meeting is now posted. OTA will keep you informed of issues to be discussed and commented on for this meeting.

IFOAM World Congress

The IFOAM World Congress will be held November 9 – 11, 2017 in New Delhi, India.  This gathering happens once every three years and is a meeting point for organic stakeholders worldwide. Organic Trade Association and Organic Center staff will present at the conference, including:

University of Maryland Agriculture Law Education Initiative (ALEI) Conference

Friday, November 17, 2017 - 8:00am to 3:00pm

ALEI is a joint venture between University of Maryland College Park, University of Maryland Francis Carey School of Law, and University of Maryland Eastern Shore focused on providing legal extension education to Maryland farmers. ALEI created an annual gathering to present issues and developments from a variety of perspectives to spread knowledge and spark conversations. The Conference attendees are a mix of farmers, policymakers, environmental activists, attorneys, and state officials, all with various interactions and relationships with farming and the environment.

The Organic Trade Association will be attending the Conference to speak on a panel about organic regulations, particularly organic livestock and the recent OTA suit. The Conference will take place from 8am-3pm on November 17th, the organic panel is scheduled for 8:45-9:30am.

Farmers Advisory Council Fly-In

Farmers Advisory Council Fly-In

Tuesday, November 28, 2017 - 8:00am to Thursday, November 30, 2017 - 5:00pm

The Organic Trade Association’s Farmers Advisory Council (FAC) is organizing a farmer fly-in scheduled for November 28-30.  FAC’s goal during this event is to meet with members of the Senate and House Ag Committee to discuss the upcoming Farm Bill.  Meetings are also expected to be scheduled with USDA, White House, and other DC-based Ag groups to discuss issues of concern to organic farmers.
