The OTA Calendar is full of events that are either organized or attended by OTA. We are pleased to organize and support dozens of events that advance organic agriculture and trade throughout the year. Some of these are signature OTA events hosted for members, while others are regional, national, or international conferences where OTA staff are featured keynotes and panelists. Whether we’re bringing the latest news and trends about the organic industry to diverse audiences, sponsoring business networking gatherings, or hosting listening sessions to gather feedback from the sector, you can count on OTA to be part of the action.

The second annual Organic Produce Summit is July 12-13 at the Monterrey Conference Center in Monterrey, CA. Retail buying organizations from across North America will meet with growers, shippers, processors and distributors in this intimate and energetic event devoted exclusively to organic fresh produce. ICOA Annual Meeting

The Inter-American Commission for Organic Agriculture (ICOA), which comprises the organic competent authorities of countries of the Americas, is holding its Annual Meeting from July 15 – 21 in Portland Oregon. In June 2008, the ministers of agriculture of the western hemisphere created the ICOA for the purpose of contributing to the further development of organic agriculture in their countries and facilitating trade of organic produce.  ICOA is a sub group of Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) supporting cooperation on agriculture in the Americas since 1942.  OTA is honored to plan and host this meeting. Thursday, July 20, is an open to the public day where guests will learn about organic in the Americas and hear from industry experts on growing organic in the western hemisphere.  For information or to RSVP please contact Monique Marez.

Texas A&M AgriLife Research Rice Field Day

Thursday, July 13, 2017 - 2:00pm

The Organic Center will be presenting at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research Rice Field Day on July 13, 2017 in Beaumont, Texas.  The afternoon will feature information about our organic rice program, with the objectives of providing updated information about organic rice production and management, reporting on the progress of our project, and getting input from our stakeholder advisory board.  We’ll also be giving an organic rice field tour to talk about disease control, nutrient management, insect control, and variety performance.  Field tours will be followed by an organic rice workshop and an advisory board meeting for our project.  The workshop will cover disease management and research updates from Texas, information about nutrients and agronomy, weed management, insect management, updates from Arkansas and South Carolina, details about our outreach program (including this website!), an update on our cost-benefit analysis and plenty of time for questions.

The Japanese Journalist Bootcamp & 2nd Annual Organic Lifestyle Expo will take place from July 25-30 in Tokyo Japan. OTA will host 20 key Japanese journalists and influencers on a certified organic farm outside of Tokyo for an organic 101 bootcamp.  Journalists will learn about organic agriculture principles, regulations, markets, and trends.  They will experience first-hand the benefits of organic and share the experience with their readers.  Immediately following OTA will participate in the 2nd Annual Organic Lifestyle Expo in Tokyo; highlighting USDA organic products to a curious Japanese market.  Did you know Japan is the third largest export destination for US organic products?  For more information on these activities please contact Monique Marez.

Pennsylvania Certified Organic’s FarmFest

The Organic Trade Association will be taking part in the Pennsylvania Certified Organic’s (PCO) FarmFest on Friday and Saturday, July 28-29, at the Grange Fairgrounds in Centre Hall, PA. The event will feature Tom Beddard of Lady Moon Farms as the keynote speaker, live music, family activities and educational workshops, demos and discussions. Organic Trade Association staffers Megan DeBates (Organic Trade Association’s Director of Legislative Affairs and Coalitions), and Allison Rice (Engagement Coordinator for Government Affairs and Working Groups) will be on hand during Friday activities, and DeBates will be part of a panel on Ensuring Integrity of Organic Imports. Pennsylvania Certified Organic is one of the latest members to become part of the Organic Trade Association’s Farmers Advisory Committee.
