What COTA Does

COTA logo

The entire Canadian organic sector benefits directly from COTA’s work in Ottawa and across the country.

COTA protects organic:

COTA has an effective impact on Parliament Hill, pushing for more market access and better equivalency arrangements with our trading partners, advocating for progressive environmental and agriculture policy, and support for the ongoing maintenance of Canada's Organic Standards.

COTA is a leading voice for the organic sector, giving dozens of television, radio and print interviews every year and providing the public with fact-based information, statistics and expert commentary on Canada’s fastest growing food and agriculture market.

COTA promotes organic:

COTA helped found Organic Week, the national celebration of the organic sector. Organic Week has engaged small community groups, provincial and national groups, farmers markets, organic companies and retailers of all sizes, restaurants and consumers in the fun. COTA also coordinates the national “Think Before You Eat” brand campaign and website. The “Think” campaign engages directly with consumers to promote the benefits of choosing organic: reducing exposure to pesticides and GMOs, supporting sustainable farms and living soils, humane livestock standards and much more. This campaign supports all organic farmers, organic brands and like-minded associations.

COTA builds information on organic:

COTA works with partners, other associations and certifying bodies to compile and analyze annual data on Canadian organic production, consumer attitudes and behaviors, as well as domestic organic sales and exports. We also have a history of conducting custom studies on specific aspects of the organic sector — contact us if you would like to discuss your research needs with COTA.
