This annual gala pays tribute to the Organic Trade Association’s Organic Leadership Award recipients. This year's event was held on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at the InterContinental Hotel Chicago. Paddy Doherty, organic farmer and advocate who was instrumental in the development of Canada's Organic Products Regulations, accepted the Organic Leadership Award for Achievement in Growing the Organic Industry via video. Wendell Lundberg, of Lundberg Family Farms, accepted the Organic Leadership Award for Achievement in Growing Organic Agriculture behalf of founding members of the family farm and pioneers of organic rice production in the United States, Eldon Lundberg, Wendell Lundberg, Harlan Lundberg, and Homer Lundberg. OTA also celebrated the Host Committee's success in the 2009 Annual Fund Campaign and thanked Phil Margolis for his ten years of service on OTA's Board of Directors.

The evening started with a cocktail hour with organic wine, beer, or cocktails and delectable hors d’oeuvres created by guest Chef Al Rosas, The Organic Chef®, of Rosas Farms. Chef Rosas was even so gracious as to donate the beef and shrimp raised on his own farm to the event. Chef Rosas' new cookbook, The Perfected Meat, will be hitting bookshelves soon. About 300 attendees enjoyed views of downtown Chicago during the all organic dinner and desserts. The evening ended with dancing and live music presented by the Chicago Blues Review.
