Summer 2010: Since participating in visits throughout the world, the Canada Organic Trade Association has been developing a Long-Term International Strategy for organic trade. Executive Director, Matthew Holmes gathered information from trade shows like Biofach 2010 in Germany and Expo West in California, market tours in the Netherlands and certifiers’ conferences in Italy. All this work should help in making Canadian organic agriculture much more competitive globally.
New COTA Advisory Committee: The Canada Organic Trade Association welcomes its new Advisory Committee! Cynthia Beretta, owner of Beretta Organic Farms and Kelly Monaghan, President of Ash Street Organics have been re-elected, while Steve Cavell, CEO of Organic Meadow has been elected and is a welcome addition to the new committee. Elisabeth Bélanger, CEO of La Maison Orphée, will now fill the appointed position. The new committee’s mandate began on June 14. COTA thanks outgoing committee member Hélène Bouvier of Organic Ranchers for her many years of service. Congratulations to the new committee, and many thanks to all members who were candidates in the 2010 election.
