GREENFIELD, MASS. (Nov. 3, 1999)—The Organic Trade Association has selected William (Bill) R. Knudsen as its president for 1999-2000. Knudsen is a consultant for Smucker Quality Beverages and also operates a business with his wife, Nancy.
Other officers are: Bu Nygrens of Veritable Vegetable, vice president—United States; Debra Boyle of Pro Organics Marketing Inc., vice president—Canada; Joseph Smillie of Quality Assurance International, secretary; and Eugene Kahn of Small Planet Foods, LLC, treasurer.
Newly elected to the Board of Directors were Jesse Singerman of Blooming Prairie Warehouse, Dave DeCou of Organically Grown Company, and Andy Grant of Grant Family Farms. In addition, the board appointed Tonya Pavich of Natural Selection Foods/Earthbound Farm and Michael Gilliland of Wild Oats Markets Inc.
Mark Retzloff of Horizon Organic Dairy, president for 1998-1999, continues to serve on the board. Other board members include Diane Bowen of Organic Crop Improvement Association, Nancy Hirshberg of Stonyfield Farm, Inc., LaRhea Pepper of Organic Essentials, and Aaran Stephens of Nature’s Path Foods, Inc.
"OTA is fortunate to have such strong, committed leaders from all sectors of the organic industry as board members to guide the association into the next century," said OTA’s Executive Director Katherine DiMatteo.
Added Knudsen, "The new millennium will see USDA organic regulations, OTA marketing initiatives, and the development of an OTA trade show. Fortunately, we have a strong OTA staff, a dedicated board, and a large and growing membership."
The new officers and board members were introduced at OTA’s annual meeting held Oct. 20 in Baltimore, Maryland, in conjunction with Natural Products Expo East.
