Keep the momentum going

November 12, 2010

As we begin the OTA 2011 Annual Fund drive, I'm pleased to share the exciting news that Good Housekeeping magazine features a terrific article on organic agriculture and products in its November issue. Pieces like this don’t just happen. As part of our annual media tour to women’s service magazines and news outlets, OTA visited Good Housekeeping with news, information, and story ideas related to organic. Since then, OTA has worked back and forth with this widely read publication to develop this article and be a general resource for this organic story, which is expected to reach up to 18 million consumers. This is a prime example of the work that your support enables.

This fall we also celebrated Canada's first national Organic Week, coordinated by the Canada Organic Trade Association (COTA) and its partners. The week was a run-away success: officially kicked off by the Minister of Agriculture, with community events and retail promotions across the country, and COTA's first Parliament Day in Ottawa. COTA also coordinated a special feature report on organic in the national Globe and Mail newspaper, reaching over 1.3 million readers daily.

Please budget now for the OTA 2011 Annual Fund. The Annual Fund provides critical resources for OTA's continued work on policy issues, media relations, and consumer marketing programs. Our goal is to raise $650,000 by March 2011, with $50,000 as a dedicated goal for the Canada Organic Trade Association. We are starting out with funds already pledged toward that goal due to the early leadership commitments of companies like Small Planet Foods and Honest Tea. Keep the pendulum swinging in the right direction for growth in organic sales— please pledge your support today!

The 2011 Annual Fund Campaign officially kicks off in January under the guidance of your organic industry colleagues who serve on the Host Committee. They know what I do— OTA will be as strong as you make it! Visit OTA’s web site any time to make a pledge, meet the 2011 Host Committee, or see a list of past-year Annual Fund investors.

Thank you in advance for your investment in your trade association via the 2011 Annual Fund. I assure you it will be put to efficient and effective use.

Warmest regards,

Christine Bushway
